Restored Douglas A-1 Skyraider 'America,' Ramp View with Attendee for Scale, 2 May 2015
A beautifully restored Douglas A-1 Skyraider, named 'America' and marked 'Lieutenant,' sits on static display during a 2015 veterans' reunion. The Skyraider -- affectionately nicknamed the 'Spad' by its crews -- served with distinction as a rugged, propeller-driven attack aircraft flown by both U.S. and South Vietnamese Air Force pilots throughout the Vietnam War, prized for its heavy ordnance load and ability to loiter over the battlefield.
