The shoulder tabs 'SANDY' and 'SPAD' name, respectively, the callsign for A-1 rescue escort aircraft and the community's own nickname for the Skyraider. Crews of these aircraft provided close air support and recovery cover for MACV-SOG reconnaissance teams operating in Laos and Cambodia.
