Behind her hangs the black banner of MACV-SOG -- the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, Studies and Observations Group -- whose skull-in-a-green-beret device is among the most recognizable unit emblems of the Vietnam War. SOG conducted classified cross-border reconnaissance operations into Laos and Cambodia between 1964 and 1972, and its surviving members form the core of the Special Operations Association.
