A young airman in a flight suit poses astride a large aerial bomb on a munitions trailer stencilled 56 S.O.W., backed by the steel revetment walls that sheltered aircraft at Southeast Asian bases. The 56th Special Operations Wing, based at Nakhon Phanom in Thailand, controlled A-1 Skyraider operations including the SANDY rescue-escort mission and close air support for MACV-SOG reconnaissance teams.
