SPAD was the callsign and nickname of the Douglas A-1 Skyraider and its crews, and the 56th Special Operations Wing at Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, controlled A-1 operations in Southeast Asia, including the SANDY rescue-escort mission and close air support for MACV-SOG reconnaissance teams.
