Interior of a Barracks Room or Unit Shop with Pin-Up Poster, Leashed Animal on a Pedestal Stand and Hanging Equipment — Vietnam-Era Colour Slide

A candid slide of a billet interior during the Vietnam era: plank walls, a plaid-covered table, and the ordinary clutter of men living far from home. A pin-up poster is pinned to the wall — the woman holds a fanned hand of cards topped by the ace of spades — while a heavy pedestal stand on the table serves as a perch for what appears to be a leashed animal, most likely one of the small monkeys often kept as unofficial unit mascots in Southeast Asia. A camouflaged helmet hangs on the far wall. Soft focus and low light make the frame technically poor, but it preserves a domestic side of the war seldom recorded in official photography.
