Two badged attendees share a drink during a social function at a Special Operations Association Reunion, held at The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas around 2013. Founded to bring together veterans of clandestine and unconventional-warfare units, the Association's annual reunion draws a large contingent of MACV-SOG veterans, the Vietnam-era Studies and Observations Group that conducted cross-border reconnaissance into Laos and Cambodia. Attendees wear civilian clothes; the lanyard badge, and occasionally a small unit lapel pin, are the only markers of affiliation.
