Two American soldiers photographed in a forward operating base compound in South Vietnam, identified by collection annotation as Franklin D. 'Doug' Miller and Edward Wolcoff, both associated with Recon Team Vermont of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG). Unlike the sterile fatigues worn across the border, these in-camp uniforms carry full insignia - 'U.S. ARMY' tapes, name tapes, sergeant's chevrons, a parachutist badge and shoulder patches - together with the locally made pocket patches and hand-lettered hats that recon men adopted as unofficial team identity.
