NCOs Examine Crater Floor During Ordnance Clearing Operation, Vietnam War Era
Two noncommissioned officers work at the bottom of a crater during an ordnance clearing or damage-assessment operation. Scenes like this were a routine, if unnerving, part of rear-area life on bases in South Vietnam and Thailand, where enemy rocket and mortar fire periodically struck installations far from the front lines.
