USAF A-1 Skyraider in Flight Over Open Water, Southeast Asia, 1969

A U.S. Air Force A-1 Skyraider, nicknamed 'Spad' by the men who flew it, banks low over coastal waters during the Vietnam War. Slower and more heavily armed than contemporary jets, the propeller-driven Skyraider excelled at close air support and rescue escort missions, often absorbing damage that would have downed faster aircraft.
