Nose Detail of Preserved A-1 Skyraider 'America' Nose Art, Tennessee Air Museum, April 16, 2011

Nose detail of a preserved A-1 Skyraider on static display, showing its camouflage paint and 'America' shield nose art. The Skyraider, affectionately nicknamed 'Sandy' or 'Spad' by the pilots who flew it, served as a rugged, heavily armed close-air-support and rescue-escort aircraft throughout the Vietnam War, and survivors like this one are preserved today to honor that legacy.
