Douglas A-1 Skyraider Cockpit, Tennessee Air Museum, April 2011
A preserved Douglas A-1 Skyraider on display at the Tennessee Air Museum, photographed with its canopy open in April 2011. The Skyraider served as the workhorse of USAF Air Commando and Rescue squadrons during the Vietnam War, flying close air support and 'Sandy' escort missions to protect downed airmen during search-and-rescue operations. The red 'RESCUE' arrow stenciled near the cockpit marks the emergency access point used by ground crews and rescue personnel. Project: 219533
