Veteran Beside Restored Yellow Primary Trainer N8457 at an Aviation Museum, Operation Tailwind Gathering, 30 April 2016

Veteran with a restored primary trainer, aviation museum, 30 April 2016. This photograph was taken at a gathering of veterans associated with Operation Tailwind, the September 1970 MACV-SOG Hatchet Force raid into southern Laos supported by Marine CH-53 helicopters, Cobra gunships and U.S. Air Force A-1 Skyraiders. The aircraft, registered N8457 and marked with the training number 23, is a low-wing tandem primary trainer of the type used to give American military aviators their first hours of flight instruction in the 1940s. The wall emblem behind identifies the venue as a museum associated with the P-47 Thunderbolt Pilots Association. From the Donald L. Engebretsen collection. Project: 219527
