Dunford Jr., then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - greets a young guest and his mother during the events surrounding the Medal of Honor awarded to Gary Michael Rose. Rose, a Special Forces medic, received the nation's highest decoration on 23 October 2017 for his actions during Operation Tailwind, the September 1970 MACV-SOG raid into southern Laos, and was inducted into the Pentagon Hall of Heroes the following day.
