The Don Englebreston Collection
Three Indigenous Hatchet Force Soldiers in a Highland Village, Southeast Asia, circa 1970 (Don Boudreaux / Operation Tailwind Material)
Circa 1970, Southeast Asian highlands. Three indigenous soldiers, most likely Montagnard troops serving with a MACV-SOG Hatchet Force company, stand for a photograph in a village of thatched longhouses raised on stilts behind a stockade of cut saplings. Montagnard highlanders made up the great majority of the indigenous strength of SOG's cross-border companies, including the Hatchet Force that Captain Eugene McCarley led into southern Laos on Operation Tailwind in September 1970. This print is preserved among the Tailwind papers donated by Don Boudreaux; the men are not identified. Project: 219441
