MACV-SOG recon and Hatchet Force teams, composed largely of Montagnard, Nung, and Vietnamese personnel led by small numbers of American Green Berets, conducted some of the most dangerous covert operations of the Vietnam War, including the 1970 raid into Laos known as Operation Tailwind.
