CH-53 Helicopter Rope Extraction of Personnel, Vietnam War Era (Book Scan)

CH-53 Helicopter Rope Extraction of Personnel, Vietnam War Era (Book Scan)

A CH-53 helicopter conducts a rope extraction of personnel, lifting a line of men suspended beneath the aircraft. This method, sometimes called a McGuire rig, allowed helicopter crews to rapidly recover reconnaissance team members from dense jungle terrain where no landing zone was available, a technique closely associated with MACV-SOG (Studies and Observations Group) operations during the Vietnam War, including missions such as the 1970 Operation Tailwind.
