Circa June 1998. A column of newsprint from the Washington Times, preserved by veterans of Operation Tailwind, rebutting the CNN and Time report that alleged US forces used the nerve agent sarin during the September 1970 SOG raid into southern Laos. The clipping records Admiral Thomas Moorer withdrawing the confirmation attributed to him, Pentagon statements that the gas employed was riot-control CS rather than a nerve agent, and the tactical argument that a team sent into a sarin-contaminated area without protective clothing or atropine could not have survived intact. CNN retracted the story within weeks and the journalists responsible left the network. The episode, and the veterans' campaign against it, generated a substantial paper file that survives in this collection. Project: 219318
