Silhouette of Douglas A-1 Skyraider in Flight, Air Show, 2014

A Douglas A-1 Skyraider banks against an overcast sky during a modern air show appearance. Originally developed for the U.S. Navy in the 1940s, the rugged, heavily armed Skyraider became a workhorse of the Vietnam War, flown by U.S. Air Force Air Commandos and the Vietnamese Air Force in close air support and search-and-rescue escort ('Sandy') roles. Surviving Skyraiders remain popular attractions at warbird airshows today. Project: 219310
