Douglas A-1 Skyraider in Flight, June 7, 2014 Air Show, Tennessee Museum of Aviation, Sevierville, Tennessee

A Douglas A-1 Skyraider passes overhead during the air show of June 7, 2014 at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation, Sevierville. Nearly sixty years after the type entered service, a handful of Skyraiders remain airworthy in private and museum hands - among them Neal Melton's A-1H, N39606. In Vietnam the A-1 flew under the callsigns Spad and Sandy, escorting rescue helicopters and delivering close air support with an endurance no jet could match. Flying displays like this one keep the sound of a Wright R-3350 in the air for the veterans who once flew behind it. Project: 219310
