The Don Englebreston Collection
Two Restored P-47 Thunderbolt Fighters on Display, Tennessee Air Museum, June 2014
Two restored Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighters rest on a grassy hillside during a June 2014 airshow visit to a Tennessee air museum. Finished in polished natural metal with period national insignia, the aircraft in the foreground carries the code '44' while the nose-art-adorned 'Hunter XVI,' coded '40,' sits beyond it. Though photographed decades after the Second World War, these preserved Thunderbolts represent the type of piston-engine fighter that gave way to the jet-age aircraft flown by the airmen documented elsewhere in this collection.
