Republic P-47 Thunderbolt 'Hun Hunter XVI' (S/N 490460) at Airshow
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, one of the heaviest single-engine fighters of World War II, is represented here by a lovingly restored example named 'Hun Hunter XVI.' Though this rugged fighter predates the Vietnam War, aircraft like it paved the way for the ground-attack doctrine later employed by Skyraiders and other close-support aircraft in Southeast Asia. It is preserved today as a flying tribute at warbird airshows across the country. Project: 219310
