Three restored World War II fighters — two Republic P-47 Thunderbolts and a North American P-51 Mustang — fly in formation during a 2014 air show. These aircraft, once mainstays of Allied air superiority and ground-attack operations in the European and Pacific theaters, are today maintained and flown by warbird preservation groups to honor the service of WWII airmen.
