Douglas A-1 Skyraider in Dark Navy Finish, Low Over the Runway with Gear Down, Air Show, 7 June 2014
A Douglas A-1 Skyraider low over the runway with its gear down, photographed at an air show on 7 June 2014. The aircraft carries the overall dark blue-grey finish of U.S. Navy service - the Skyraider's original career, before the type passed to the U.S. Air Force for the Vietnam War - with red-and-white warning stripes on the propeller tips and inert practice stores under the wings. Behind the treeline, the layered blue ridges of the Great Smoky Mountains locate the field in eastern Tennessee, consistent with the Tennessee Museum of Aviation at Sevierville. Contemporary commemorative flying, from the Neal Melton material in the Don Engebretsen collection. Project: 219310
