Douglas A-1 Skyraider "Lieutenant America" Taxiing at Air Show
A Douglas A-1 Skyraider, a piston-engine attack aircraft that served with distinction during the Vietnam War, taxis for takeoff at a vintage air show. Nicknamed "Lieutenant America," this example wears the camouflage scheme typical of Skyraiders flown in Southeast Asia, where the aircraft's heavy ordnance capacity and long loiter time made it a favorite for close air support and search-and-rescue escort missions.
