P-51 Mustang and Folded-Wing A-1 Skyraider on Museum Ramp During Air Show
A restored North American P-51 Mustang, one of the most celebrated fighters of World War II, sits parked alongside a folded-wing Douglas A-1 Skyraider attack aircraft on the museum ramp. The Skyraider, a rugged single-engine bomber used extensively in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, displays its distinctive folding wings, a feature designed for compact carrier storage aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers. Together the two aircraft represent successive generations of American piston-engine combat aviation on display for visitors during the museum's open-house air show. Project: 219309
