A preserved Douglas A-1 Skyraider stands with its outer wing panels folded at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation, Sevierville, on 7 June 2014. The wing fold was inherited from the type's U.S. Navy carrier origins, and the exposed lower surface reveals the long row of pylons from which the Skyraider carried an ordnance load heavier than a Second World War heavy bomber. Aircraft in this Southeast Asia camouflage flew Sandy combat search-and-rescue escort and special operations support in Vietnam and Laos - the mission flown by Donald L. Engebretsen with the 56th Special Operations Wing's OLAA detachment at Da Nang. The lettering 'AF 39...' on the aft fuselage is consistent with Neal Melton's A-1H, N39606. Project: 219309
