Douglas A-1 Skyraider "Lieutenant America" -- Static Display, Lloyd TN Air Museum Airshow, June 7, 2014
This Douglas A-1 Skyraider, nicknamed "Spad" by the pilots who flew it, represents one of the most effective close-air-support aircraft of the Vietnam War. Slower and more heavily armed than contemporary jets, the A-1 excelled at loitering over the battlefield and providing precise fire support, making it the aircraft of choice for MACV-SOG operations and "Sandy" rescue escort missions throughout Southeast Asia.
