Restored Douglas A-1 Skyraider, Tail Code TC 665, on Static Display, Tennessee Air Show, 7 June 2014

Tennessee, 7 June 2014. A restored Douglas A-1 Skyraider sits on the ramp in Southeast Asia camouflage, wearing the tail code TC and the number 665. Introduced at the end of the Second World War as a carrier attack aircraft, the piston-engined Skyraider found its defining role two decades later in Southeast Asia, where its endurance, ordnance load and survivability made it the mainstay of close air support and combat search and rescue. Fewer than forty remain airworthy worldwide. Photographed at an air show attended by veterans of the Skyraider community, including the men whose wartime slides make up much of this collection.
