The aircraft wears the three-tone tan and green Southeast Asia camouflage scheme adopted by U.S. tactical aircraft in the mid-1960s, designed to break up an airframe's outline when seen from above against jungle. Details visible here include the clear bubble canopy, the blade antennas on the spine, and the heavy paddle-bladed propeller of a high-powered piston engine. The type and finish are consistent with a Douglas A-1 Skyraider, the aircraft flown in Southeast Asia by Donald L. Engebretsen, whose collection preserves this photograph. Project: 219309
