Republic P-47D Thunderbolt 'WICKED WABBIT', Serial 490438, in Flight at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation Air Show, 7 June 2014

7 June 2014, Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport, Sevierville, Tennessee. A bubble-canopy Republic P-47D Thunderbolt, serial 44-90438 and named 'WICKED WABBIT', passes overhead in polished natural metal with an orange fin band and late-war USAAF star-and-bar markings. Built around the enormous Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial and a belly-mounted turbo-supercharger, the Thunderbolt was among the heaviest single-seat fighters of the Second World War and one of its most effective ground-attack aircraft. Fewer than a dozen remain airworthy today. Project: 219309
