Interpretive panels at The Old Mill in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, photographed on 2 May 2015. Built in 1830 by William Love beside his father's iron forge, the mill ground corn and wheat for surrounding farms and served as the community's news board, meeting place and, during the Civil War, the site where casualty lists were posted. Its French Buhr millstones, flint granite imported from France in 1830 and dragged across the Smoky Mountains by sled, ground grain for 147 years before being replaced in 1977. Between 1921 and 1929 the mill's waterwheels also generated electricity for the town at a flat rate of $1.25 a month. This image is filed among photographs of a 2015 veterans' commemoration held nearby, and records a sightseeing stop rather than the event itself. Project: 219293
