Restored Douglas A-1 Skyraider 'Lieutenant America' on Airport Ramp, Wings Folded
A meticulously restored Douglas A-1 Skyraider, named 'Lieutenant America,' displayed with its wings folded in the classic carrier-storage position. The Skyraider, nicknamed 'Sandy' or 'Spad' by aircrews, served as a rugged, heavily armed close-air-support and rescue-escort aircraft during the Vietnam War, flown by pilots of units such as the 56th Special Operations Wing from bases including Nakhon Phanom, Thailand.
