Frontal View of Douglas A-1 Skyraider Radial Engine and Propeller

A restored Douglas A-1 Skyraider, photographed nose-on to highlight its distinctive four-bladed propeller and Wright R-3350 radial engine. Rugged and capable of carrying a heavy ordnance load with long loiter time, the Skyraider (nicknamed 'Spad' by its crews) was a mainstay of close air support and search-and-rescue escort missions during the Vietnam War, frequently called upon to protect downed aircrew and support special operations ground teams operating deep in hostile territory.
