'Jim' Wold commanded Operating Location Alpha Alpha, the Douglas A-1 Skyraider detachment of the 56th Special Operations Wing based at Da Nang, whose aircraft flew close air support, combat search and rescue, and missions supporting MACV-SOG reconnaissance teams. Decades after the war, the men who served in that detachment and in the wider Skyraider community continued to gather at airfields and museums to honor one another.
