Restored A-1 Skyraider 'Lieutenant America' Taxiing with Nose Art, 2 May 2015

The Douglas A-1 Skyraider, nicknamed 'Spad' or 'Sandy' by the aircrews who flew it, served as a rugged, propeller-driven attack and close air support platform during the Vietnam War, prized for its heavy ordnance load and long loiter time. This lovingly restored example, marked 'Lieutenant America,' taxis under its own power at a veterans' reunion event, keeping the aircraft's legacy alive for new generations. Project: 219287
