Douglas A-1 Skyraider 'TC 665' Taxiing at Tennessee Fly-In Event, 2 May 2015
A restored Douglas A-1 Skyraider, marked 'TC 665' and named 'Lieutenant,' taxis before an appreciative crowd at a Tennessee fly-in event. Skyraiders like this one flew close air support, interdiction, and rescue escort missions during the Vietnam War, prized for their heavy weapons load and ability to loiter over the battlefield far longer than jet aircraft. Preserved examples such as this continue to fly today, honoring the pilots and ground crews who kept the 'Spad' in the fight. Project: 219278
