Douglas A-1 Skyraiders with Folded Wings, Museum of Aviation Ramp Event

Two Douglas A-1 Skyraiders sit wings-folded on the ramp outside the Museum of Aviation. The Skyraider, a rugged single-engine, propeller-driven attack aircraft, served with distinction during the Vietnam War flying close air support and 'Sandy' rescue escort missions for downed aircrew, including those supporting covert operations in Laos and Cambodia. Long after their combat service ended, surviving Skyraiders like these are lovingly maintained by museums and veteran associations, and gatherings such as this one bring together former pilots and enthusiasts to honor the aircraft's legacy.
