A-1 Skyraider on Takeoff/Landing Roll, Rural Airfield, May 2019

A restored Douglas A-1 Skyraider taxis on a rural airfield runway during a spring 2019 aviation event. Originally developed for the U.S. Navy in the 1940s and later flown extensively by the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam, the Skyraider was prized for its heavy ordnance capacity, long loiter time, and rugged survivability -- qualities that made it a favored close-air-support and search-and-rescue escort platform for Air Commandos and Sandy pilots supporting downed airmen.
