F-100 Super Sabre and Paired A-1 Skyraiders in Flight, Vietnam-Era USAF Photographs
Two Vietnam-era U.S. Air Force strike aircraft captured in flight: a North American F-100 Super Sabre jet fighter-bomber (top) climbs through a dramatic sky, while a pair of Douglas A-1 Skyraider propeller attack planes (bottom) cruise in formation over Southeast Asian terrain. Though the piston-engine Skyraider dated back to the late 1940s, its heavy ordnance load and long loiter time made it indispensable for close air support and rescue escort missions alongside faster jets like the F-100 throughout the war.
