A Douglas A-1 Skyraider, loaded with external fuel tanks and ordnance, flies above a cloud deck en route to Bien Hoa Air Base in South Vietnam. Rugged and heavily armed, the propeller-driven Skyraider served throughout the Vietnam War as a close air support and search-and-rescue escort aircraft, flown by Air Force 'Sandy' pilots to protect downed aircrew.
