Crash-Fire-Rescue Vehicles Massed on the Airfield, Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, Vietnam War Era

Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, Vietnam War era. Crash-fire-rescue vehicles stand massed along the far side of the airfield, with smoke drifting up beyond the hangar line — the signature of an aircraft emergency at one of the world's busiest wartime airfields. Da Nang handled USAF, Marine, Navy and Vietnamese Air Force flying around the clock, and its fire crews responded to battle-damaged and mechanically stricken aircraft as a matter of routine. The hills behind, laced with communications masts, form the terrain familiar to every crew that flew from the field. From the Larry Warren material in the collection of Donald L. Engebretsen.
