U.S. Air Force Pickup Truck on the Flight Line, Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, ca. 1968-1971
A U.S. Air Force pickup truck in standard strata blue livery stands on the concrete apron at Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, its door open and a crewman at the wheel. Photographs of wartime flight lines usually center on aircraft, but the daily work of an air base was carried out by vehicles like this one - hauling crews, tools, ordnance handling gear and signage between revetments. Da Nang hosted the 56th Special Operations Wing's OLAA A-1 Skyraider detachment, whose Sandy crews flew combat search-and-rescue and special operations support. This slide comes from the Larry Warren photographs within the Donald L. Engebretsen collection. Project: 219104
