The end-of-tour reports of Lt Col James W. Wold detail a year commanding an A-1H Skyraider special operations unit at Pleiku and Da Nang, flying 241 combat missions in support of classified "Prairie Fire" reconnaissance patrols, alongside his candid analysis of rescue tactics and the case for a dedicated close air support aircraft that led to the A-10. A later 1989 letter shows his continued advocacy for fellow airmen's recognition long after the war.
