Two period newspaper clippings tell the rescue story from the ground up: a November 1969 account of four 56th Special Operations Wing A-1 pilots, among them 1Lt Albert J. 'Jax' Roberts III, who covered Navy Commander Lloyd W. Richards after he ejected over enemy territory, and Richards' own letter of thanks. The second, from Air Force Times in April 1970, follows Capt. Laurence C. Johnson, pulled accidentally from a C-130 over Southeast Asia and found at dawn near enemy troops by a Skyraider before a Jolly Green Giant hoisted him out.
