A-1 Skyraider in Flight with Open Canopy and Centerline Fuel Tank, November 1970

A Douglas A-1 Skyraider flies with its canopy open, the pilot exposed to the open air, in this air-to-air photograph taken from a companion aircraft in November 1970. The rugged, propeller-driven Skyraider served as a mainstay close-air-support and search-and-rescue escort aircraft throughout the Vietnam War, prized for its heavy ordnance capacity and long loiter time.
