A camouflaged A-1 Skyraider banks in flight, fully loaded with external ordnance, in this air-to-air photograph taken from a wingman's aircraft during the Vietnam War. The Skyraider's ability to carry a heavy weapons load over long distances made it indispensable to Air Force Special Operations squadrons flying close air support and rescue-escort missions.
