This bronze plaque, part of a memorial honoring Captain Lance P. Sijan, USAF, describes the replica headstone once used by North Vietnamese captors to mark his gravesite at the prison complex known to American POWs as the "Hanoi Hilton." Sijan, shot down over Laos in 1967, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism while evading capture and enduring captivity. The original headstone, returned with his remains in 1974, is preserved today at the United States Air Force Academy. Project: 218971
