Bronze Memorial Plaque, F-4C Phantom of Captain Lance P. Sijan, Lance Sijan Memorial Plaza, Wisconsin
This bronze plaque honors Captain Lance P. Sijan, a U.S. Air Force Academy graduate and electronic warfare officer whose F-4C Phantom was shot down over North Vietnam on November 9, 1967. Despite severe injuries, Sijan evaded capture for weeks before being taken prisoner, where he died in captivity in 1968. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, becoming the first Air Force Academy graduate to receive the nation's highest military honor. The plaque is part of a memorial plaza dedicated to his memory in his home state of Wisconsin. Project: 218971
