Battle-Damaged Military Avionics Chassis with Opened Cover, 'DANGER VOLTAGE' Placard, Da Nang, ca. April 1970
Combat damage, documented up close. This opened military electronics chassis - most likely an aircraft radio or navigation set - has been holed through its access cover, the paint stripped to bare metal around the punctures, with torn fragments of thin sheet metal scattered on the concrete below. Inside, the vacuum tubes, phenolic terminal boards and hand-laced wiring harnesses typical of 1960s avionics lie fully exposed, alongside the orange 'DANGER VOLTAGE' warning stencilled on the inner cover. Photographed by Lt. Donald L. Engebretsen at Da Nang, ca. April 1970, during his tour flying A-1 Skyraiders with the OLAA detachment. Photographs like this were made by aircrew and maintainers to record exactly what ground fire did to an aircraft's systems. Project: 218965
